About the Awards

Background

Now in its 15th year, the Provost's Awards for Excellence were developed to recognize faculty who have earned distinction in the areas of teaching, scholarship and creative activities, and service. The awards are made possible through the generosity of the President in providing a grant from the $42 million Kellogg Legacy Project Endowment.

The Provost presents the awards during the spring University commencement ceremonies. In the fall semester of the following academic year, the recipients are honored as the keynote speakers of the Provost’s Awards Symposium.

Provost's Awards honorees receive:

  • A cash award of $3,000 for the Scholarly and Creative Activity Award; $3,000 for the Service Award; and $5,000 for the Teaching Award.
  • An award plaque.
  • Inscription of their names on a permanent plaque in the University Library.
  • Posting of their names and biographies on a website maintained by the Division of Academic Affairs.
  • Placement of a letter noting the award in their Personnel Action Files.
