Undergraduate Program and Minors
The Department of Kinesiology and Health Promotion offers two options in our undergraduate program and four minors:
Programs
Kinesiology, B.S. - General
The Kinesiology General Option offers a multidisciplinary approach to the study of the complex interactions among physiological, biomechanical, psychological, sociological, behavioral, and developmental aspects of human movement in health and disease. The mission of the General Option is to develop students with the skills necessary to conduct research and to plan, implement and evaluate programs that promote a lifelong healthy lifestyle for a culturally diverse university and surrounding community. The General Option will contain three optional emphases in Exercise Science, Public Health, and Sport and Social Justice.

Minors
Adapted Physical Activity Minor
The Adapted Physical Activity minor provides students with practical experience to gain the knowledge to plan, implement, and advocate for people with disabilities. This minor will prepare students for careers related to exercise, fitness, health, assistive technologies, and adaptive mechanical engineering such as clinical healthcare, accessibility, and assistive technology/robotic/biomedical professions. Using Cal Poly Pomona’s learn by doing philosophy, students will be prepared with skills related to modifying and adapting activities to promote lifetime physical activity engagement and wellness for all populations. Students will enter the job market with a competitive edge to work with all populations prepared through Cal Poly Pomona’s teaching credential and Adapted Physical Education Added Authorization.
Requirements for the minor can be found here: Adapted Physical Activity Minor
Exercise Science Minor
The Exercise Science Minor prepares non-Kinesiology students for careers related to exercise, fitness, and health, such as personal trainer, health educator, exercise physiologist, or coach. The minor provides a solid foundation for further study in graduate-level programs or for pursuing professional certifications in the field.
Requirements for the minor can be found here: Exercise Science Minor
Public Health Minor
The Public Health minor prepares students for careers in healthcare, public policy, community health, and research, as well as for graduate study in public health or related fields. Students will gain a deeper understanding of the principles and practices of public health through a range of topics related to the promotion and protection of health within communities and populations. The courses in this minor are designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the social determinants of health, the impact of economic environmental, and behavioral factors on health outcomes, and the role of public health interventions in preventing and controlling infectious and chronic diseases. This knowledge and skills are necessary to address the complex challenges facing public health in the 21st century.
Requirements for the minor can be found here: Public Health Minor
Sport and Social Justice Minor
The Sport and Social Justice minor explores the intersection of sport and social justice. Students will examine the historical and contemporary issues surrounding race, sports, and human movement/health promotion, including the impact of race on athlete identity, access and opportunity in sports, and the role of sports in social justice movements. This minor will also investigate the ways in which sports can be a platform for social change, including athlete advocacy and activism and community engagement.
