Making the Impossible Possible at CPP: Stories of Courage and Connection

The words "What is your Moth story?" appear over a photo of the Common Read book cover

About This Project

The Moth Presents: Occasional Magic features true personal stories about defying the impossible: “Occasional magic refers to those moments of beauty, wonder, and clarity, often stumbled upon, where we suddenly see a piece of truth about our life.”

Our current social context of a global pandemic and the continued fight against racial injustices challenges us to recognize the "Occasional Magic" of this moment and to show courage in the face of what may seem impossible.

Prompt

Think about the most important and impactful moments during your time at Cal Poly Pomona:  the moments when you spoke your truth on campus; the moments when you joined others and fought for your values and beliefs; the moments when you learned something new from a faculty member, a student, a facilities worker that changed your perspective; the moments when you helped to create change.

The moments when you created a sense of belonging for and with others; the moments when Cal Poly Pomona embodied its mission of being an “Inclusive PolyTechnic” even if it was for a brief moment.

Tell your own CPP “Moth” story, a true personal story about finding the courage to face what may have seemed impossible and make Cal Poly Pomona better. Creating social change and making the "impossible" possible can be found in moments that are every day, extraordinary, and everything in between. Your story of courage at CPP doesn't have to be epic, but should be true and significant to you.

Who Can Participate

Anyone in the CPP community of students, faculty, staff and administrators can participate.

All student submissions will receive a copy of the current CPP Common Read book, The Moth Presents: Occasional Magic and be one of the first to receive next year’s CPP Common Read book (TBA).
