Awards & Recognitions
The George P. Hart Award for Outstanding, Faculty Leadership was established following the untimely death of Professor Hart. The award was set up with memorial donations from George's many friends, his widow, and the University. It is a living memorial to the outstanding qualities of Professor Hart who, by precept and example, demonstrated the highest qualities of personal and professional leadership with students, peers, the university and the community at large.
Each year, the George P. Hart Award for Outstanding Faculty Leadership will be awarded to a faculty member who displays the highest traditions of academic life and the outstanding personal qualities that endeared Professor Hart to the university community. The individual selected will receive a monetary award in the amount of $1,000.
The Outstanding Advisor Awards recognize the outstanding efforts on this campus to support student success. They recognize individuals and programs that encourage students to establish goals and objectives, that seek practical and innovative solutions to students’ problems, that seek opportunities to grow professionally.
Each year the campus chooses one faculty member in each academic college, one staff member from Academic Affairs and one from Student Affairs, and one program from either Academic Affairs or Student Affairs to receive this award.
The Provost's Award - Staff Member of the Year is intended to recognize a staff member from the Division of Academic Affairs who distinguishes himself/herself in performance of his/her responsibilities to our faculty, the students, the Division and to the greater University community. The Award acknowledges accomplishments which include those activities that contribute to the mission of Academic Affairs by:
- Providing excellent service to campus constituents.
- Bringing positive change in support of the university’s mission.
- Developing strong, constructive, and productive relationships that enable divisional goals to be met.
- Recognizing campus volunteers that exceed expectations and result in positive outcomes that support the university’s mission.
- Honoring team leaders that utilize effective practices to inspire and lead others to contribute to student and faculty success.
- Identifying improvements to policies, practices, processes and/or programs that result in cost savings or greater efficiencies to the university.
All Staff members (Foundation and State employees) in the Division of Academic Affairs, who are permanent or probationary, full-time or part-time are eligible for consideration. A staff member may be nominated by another person, group, or be self-nominated. However, those staff members designated as MPP are ineligible.
The Provost’s Award - Staff Member of the Year is conducted yearly and is overseen by the Division of Academic Affairs with nominations evaluated and the award recipient recommended to the Provost by a committee of volunteer peers. The awardee is recognized at the fall quarter Central Academic Affairs Divisional Meeting.
The purpose of the Provost’s Awards for Excellence in Teaching, Scholarly and Creative Activities, and Service is to recognize outstanding faculty accomplishments in the three principal areas of faculty work. As the intent of the awards is to recognize a distinguished record of achievement, the totality of the nominees’ career accomplishments will be considered.
