Don Huntley

Cal Poly Pomona students, faculty, staff, and alumni are invited Friday, Nov. 18, to meet and honor the namesake of the Don B. Huntley College of Agriculture.

The university is holding a celebration in honor of Don Huntley, an alumnus (’60, animal husbandry), successful farmer, and longtime supporter of Cal Poly Pomona.

The event will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. in the field at AGRIscapes, 4102, S. University Drive, Pomona. Light refreshments will be served.

Following the event, the W. Keith and Janet Kellogg University Art Gallery will put on an exhibition of the Huntley Western Art Collection from 3 to 5 p.m.

Huntley recently pledged to donate his 475-acre, San Joaquin Valley pistachio farm to the College of Agriculture. In recognition of this gift, the California State University Board of Trustees named the college in his honor.

Raised in the San Gabriel Valley, Huntley worked in the animal health industry after graduating from Cal Poly Pomona. Later, he acquired a real estate license and sold agricultural and hill country land.

A longtime donor, Huntley has generously given to a number of programs at Cal Poly Pomona, including research projects in the colleges of agriculture and science, the creation of the Huntley Vineyard, and the Native American Pipeline and Pathways to Graduation program.

He also has donated or shared pieces of his art collection with the Huntley University Art Gallery. Huntley was honored as a Distinguished Alumnus in 2004 and received an honorary doctorate of science in 2009. He is a member of Cal Poly Pomona’s Founder’s Society.
