Internship Start Date: Between June 18 and July 2

Duties: To assist the company and its researchers in all aspects of greenhouse and lab aqua farming, experimentation, strain incubation, strain selection, tissue sampling, record keeping and data analytics in support of the lemna cultivation program and cultivation automation development. The intern has primary responsibility for execution of experiments in both greenhouse and lab environments, with strong focus on data generation using a combination of manual and automated data recording. Duties will include oversight and execution of cultivation trial establishment, cultivation activities, nutrient preparation & analysis, harvesting, postharvest sampling and testing and associated labor. Skills Required:

  • Degree in biology, horticulture, agronomy, plant science, botany or closely related technical field or experiential equivalent in an agricultural or university setting. Exposure to R&D preferred.
  • Experience in aqua farming/hydroponics operations is preferred.
  • Able to plan, direct and execute lab and aqua farming operations such as inoculating, maintaining, harvesting, preparing nutrients, taking samples and recording data.
  • Familiarity with agricultural experimental design and simple data analysis.
  • Proficient in the use of a Microsoft Office software including but not limited to Excel, Outlook, Word, and Powerpoint. Exposure to using programming languages such as Python, C++, and MySQL is preferred.
  • Valid and renewable U.S. drivers license preferred.

Irri'scape Construction

Location: Temecula

Internship Start Date: June 2018

Duties: Irri'scape has three different internship opportunities

  • Nursery Management (manage the production facility that provides plants and related supplies necessary to meet the horticultural needs of Irri'scape construction projects; assist with cultivation techniques used to produce seasonal plants including watering, weeding, fertilizing, and monitoring and controlling various diseases and pests)
  • Landscape Construction (work with field crews installing commercial landscape irrigation and plantings)
  • Landscape Contracting Estimating (provide support in the process of acquiring/bidding work, scheduling projects throughout the season; assist with the coordination, scheduling and monitoring of construction crews and subcontractors)

Skills Required:

  • must be enrolled in Huntley College of Agriculture or College of Environmental Design at Cal Poly Pomona
  • Demonstrated experience working in the nursery and/or landscaping field
  • A minimum 3.0 grade point average

Lake Geneva Country Club

Location: Lake Geneva, Wisc.

Hours/week: 50+

Length of Internship: three to six months; flexible according to students' schedules

Internship Start Date: June 1; flexible depending on students' schedules

Duties: interns will work closely with the Director of Grounds, superintendent, and assistant to ensure the best conditions possible are attained on this "high maintenance" golf course. Interns will be given the opportunity to learn and become proficient in all aspects of golf course management.

Skills Required: This position is recommended for motivated, hard-working individuals who are preparing to become successful turfgrass professionals. Applicants must be enrolled in or graduating from a two- or four-year turf management program, or related field. Future promotions are possible for graduates following the internship.

Paid: Yes. $11 per hour with plenty of overtime, on-site housing, uniforms, golf privileges, and networking opportunities.
