Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Initiatives

With organizations increasingly relying on location intelligence to make better decisions, the Singelyn Center has undertaken GIS initiatives with the goal of increasing the exposure to and engagement with GIS concepts, tools, and techniques among our constituents.

GIS Workshop Series 2021

The Singelyn Center for Innovative Analytics organized a workshop series “Location Intelligence with Geographic Information Systems (GIS)” in Fall 2021. The series consisted of two workshops and introduced participants to business applications of GIS, along with hands-on learning using leading edge GIS tools: ArcGIS Dashboards, and ArcGIS Insights. The workshops were facilitated by Dr. Mehrdad Koohikamali, Rahim Rashid, and Dr. Rita Kumar, with guest presentions by Jian Lange and Canserina Kurnia from ESRI.

GIS Day Celebrations

The Center hosted GIS Day celebrations in November 2020 which included featured presentations by GIS professionals, and a Story Maps Showcase. The Story Maps Showcase had the theme “2020: Stories From A Year Like No Other” and featured Story Maps submitted by students.

GIS Workshop Series 2020

The Center organized a workshop series “Location Intelligence with GIS” in Fall 2020. The series consisted of three workshops and introduced participants to location intelligence and business applications of GIS. Participants also completed hands-on exercises in creating Dashboards and Story Maps. The workshops were taught by Dr. Mehrdad Koohikamali and Dr. Michael Reibel, with a guest presentation by Dr. Joseph Kerski from ESRI.
