Faculty and Lecturer Gifts

March 4, 2024

The College of Business Administration and Singelyn Graduate School of Business appreciate the gifts that keep on giving for our current and future students

Mildred Hill

The College of Business Administration and Singelyn Graduate School of Business has a storied history of receiving generous investments from our Bronco community. The campus owes its establishment to the philanthropy of W. K. Kellogg, and since then, our donors and partners have continued to support student success and the growth of our programs. Their generosity has enabled us to offer a wide range of learning opportunities that benefit our students, and we are immensely grateful for their contributions and the positive impact they make.

Mildred Hill

Mrs. Mildred Hill made a $20k donation in support of the International Business and Marketing Department in honor of her late husband, Dr. James R. Hill.

Dr. James R. Hill served as faculty, Department Chair, and Interim Dean of the College of Business Administration in a career that spanned over 33 years and earned inclusion onto The Provost’s Wall of Excellence.  He was encouraging and supportive of the student counseling process and loved being accessible to students beyond his teaching function, so students and colleagues became more like family to him. He very much valued the dedication and guidance of the faculty who succeeded him in the role of Department Chair over the years, and we value his leadership and generosity as we continue to enrich the lives of our students with this donation.

LaDonna Rhodes, Ladonna D. Rhodes Scholarship Endowment

The estate of the late Dr. LaDonna Rhodes established a new $100,000 endowment in support of Accounting students.

Dr. Rhodes served as an Adjunct Lecturer in Accounting at Cal Poly Pomona for 25 years before her retirement. Her service to both the accounting industry and the university cannot be understated, in 1985, she was nominated for the California Society of Certified Public Accountants Business Faculty Role Model award, and on October 24, 1996, she was inducted into The Cal Poly Pomona Accounting Hall of Fame. She was very actively involved in several professional organizations and exemplified the virtue of lifelong learning, both in and outside the classroom. “Dr. Rhodes always went the extra mile in bringing interesting information outside textbooks to stimulate our learning processes. Her energetic nature and personal interest in the success of all of her students was very motivating,” explained a former student. Dr. Rhodes passed away peacefully on October 13, 2023.

Don Putnam, Donald F. Putnam Scholarship Endowment

Don Putnam donates $50,000 to further his scholarship endowment in the Accounting Department and expand student support.

As a former lecturer, now emeritus, who served the Accounting Department from 1979 – 2002, Don Putnam has made a remarkable gift of $50k to add to his existing endowment, ensuring increased scholarship support for future accounting students. The former professor has been most generous with his time and financial dedication to the CBA for many years and exemplifies excellence in support of higher education. To learn more about and to apply for these scholarships, you can view a list of requirements here.

We are extremely grateful for Mr. Putnam’s contributions over the years, as his generosity has impacted many CBA students’ lives.
