The College of Business Administration at Cal Poly Pomona serves more than 5,000 undergraduate and graduate students annually. Given the volume of students, Singelyn Family Dean, Dr. Sandeep Krishnamurthy, established the College of Business Administration’s Dean’s Student Advisory Council.

The Council is a volunteer group of students from each department that will meet to discuss issues, challenges, and resource needs facing CBA students from all backgrounds and educational disciplines. The students will act as liaisons between the dean and the collective of students at the CBA, helping to provide resourceful insights and topics of interest directly from the students.

The Council will then meet monthly with the Dean in a face-to-face setting on campus to establish a feedback loop for open discussion dedicated to improving the lives and learning opportunities for CBA students.

“The Dean's Student Advisory Council will play a vital role in fostering communication and collaboration between students and the administration. Their unique perspective, dedication, and enthusiasm will greatly contribute to the success of Dean’s Students Advisory Council and by extension, the overall well-being of our college,” said Krishnamurthy. Inaugural council members include Jennifer Chen (ACC ’25), Juliana Cruz (BBA ’24), Tyler DeLeon (BBA ’24), Sydney Duong (CIS ’25), Celiana Lamas (BBA ’22, MBA ’24), Ramzi Maducdoc (FRL ’24), Xavier Navarro (ACC ’25), Jonathan Nguyen (ACC ’26), Nathaniel Poremba (BBA ’27), Jose Serrato Cano (CIS ’25), and Alyssa Young (BBA ’24).

“Every day, I’m inspired by our students. Getting a chance to be the director of the inaugural DSAC is amazing because I get to work with these remarkable students to ensure the CBA is engaging with student feedback,” said Chantal Van Esch, faculty council sponsor and associate professor of management.

This council will be the first of its kind for the school, which is ranked a best business program by U.S. News & World Report 2024. “The Dean's student advisory council gives us an opportunity to have a direct impact on the academic experience of current and future students.  The council has great value for future students because we serve as a bridge between the students and the administration to make sure that the student voices are heard and considered,” said Xavier Navarro (ACC ’25).
