About the Symphonic Winds

The Cal Poly Pomona Symphonic Winds is a premier symphonic wind ensemble performing a wide range of traditional and contemporary repertoire. Comprised of 50–60 select music majors, minors, and accomplished non-music majors, the ensemble emphasizes outstanding musicianship, historical and stylistic awareness, and professional performance practices. Through weekly rehearsals and performances throughout the year, students develop artistic excellence, accountability, and collaborative skills essential to success as musicians and leaders.

Participation in Symphonic Winds emphasizes outstanding musicianship, historical and stylistic understanding, and professional performance practices.

Ensemble members are expected to prepare their individual parts thoroughly and contribute actively to a collaborative rehearsal environment.

Through consistent rehearsal and performance, students develop discipline, accountability, and artistic confidence—skills essential to both musical and professional success.

Auditions & Enrollment

Enrollment in Symphonic Winds requires a successful audition and a year-long commitment.

The ensemble is open to students across the university, including music majors, minors, and talented non-music majors.
