Advising

This page lists the advising resources and contacts for Cal Poly Pomona Music students.

Advising at a glance

  • For general questions (GE requirements, university procedures, transfer credits etc.) -- please contact the CLASS Student Success Center!

    • NOTE: All incoming transfer students must see a CLASS Student Sucess Center advisor BEFORE consulting their assigned Music Department advisor.

  • For Music advising (course selection, senior project, career options, etc.) -- please consult your assigned music department advisor.

    • All Music majors are assigned an academic advisor during Orientation, and advisor lists are posted near the department office. Please contact the department at mu@cpp.edu if you do not know who your assigned advisor might be.

    • You may also consult with the faculty members who are designated as advisors for the five different degree options (consult the individual pages for each of the degree options to see the affiliated faculty).

    •  Students who are in their first year as a music major (first-years, incoming transfers, or those current CPP students changing from another major) will have a hold placed on their registration each quarter, to assist in decision making during their transition year. This hold is removed once the student meets with their advisor.

    • All Music Majors are advised at least once a year at the annual Advising Workshop. Students who do not attend the Advising Workshop will have a hold placed on their registration that may delay their registration for the following Fall semester. To remove the hold, the student must contact the advisor and schedule an advising meeting.

    • Students with special needs (transfer credit evaluation, petitions, change of emphasis or option, etc.) may schedule an appointment during any semester with their advisor for individual meetings.
    • "At-risk" students are those who have a GPA below 2.2. The university computing system automatically places a hold on their registration. They must see the At-Risk Advisor Maria Anzaldo (email mlanzaldo@cpp.edu) for removal of the hold.
