Commencement 2023

Honor Cord/Diploma Information

Honor Cord

A gold cord worn around the neck of the gown signifies baccalaureate graduation with academic honors. Cal Poly Pomona grants honors upon graduation to students who have demonstrated academic excellence throughout their undergraduate careers.

Graduates receiving master's/postbaccalaureate degrees are not eligible for honors.

Honors apply to undergraduate students with an overall grade point average of at least 3.50 at the beginning of Spring term.  For additional information.

Everyone who earns honors at graduation will have that designation noted on their diploma.  The honors are:

  • Summa Cum Laude: 3.80 - 4.00
  • Magna Cum Laude: 3.65 - 3.79
  • Cum Laude: 3.50 - 3.64

Distribution of Honor Cords will continue on  April 11, 2023, through May 12, 2023.  Pick-ups are available on Tuesdays and Fridays at Bronco Advising Center blue counter, located at Student Service Building 121, first floor.  For information or questions, please email
