On Sunday January 12, 2020, Global Education Institute (GEI) of the College of the Extended University (CEU) welcomed a group of 18 students and 1 lead teacher from Hebei University. Hebei University is a university in China that offers degrees in management, economics, cyber security and education, etc. The students and teacher were participating in a 4-week customized program on “Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Leadership” at Cal Poly Pomona.

The 18 students were selected from 15 different colleges of Hebei University. During the 4 weeks at Cal Poly Pomona, the students attended lectures and workshops on topics such as U.S. Entrepreneurship and Innovation, Business Plan Composition, Marketing & Funding for Startups, and Collaborative Leadership. All students presented their business projects at the end of the program. The group had the opportunity to visit with iLAB, the Regenerative Studies Center, BioTrek, and engineering labs on campus. They also experienced the BRIC, toured the library, dined at the Center Pointe, and had fun at the Games Room of Bronco Student Center.

“We had a lot of hands-on opportunities throughout the program. We think the learn by doing philosophy is very helpful and meaningful”, expressed Ms. Duan Xinyi, the student representative at the graduation ceremony. Professor Li Yanan, the lead teacher, added, “The success of the program wouldn’t be possible without the effort and support from the faculty and staff of Cal Poly Pomona. I’m very impressed by the university’s commitment to One Team. One Goal. Student Success.”
