Create Your Own Virtual Reality

The College of the Extended University is thrilled to offer this high-tech progam that allows students to discover, explore, design, and experience their own 3D creations in Virtual Reality (VR)!

According to tech industry experts, VR is among the biggest technology trends of the decade. A person using VR equipment is able to look around the artificial world, move around in it, and interact with virtual features or items. This exciting technology is currently being used in medicine, education, the military, training programs, professional sports, the fashion industry, and architecture.

Students in this class will go through an interactive design process where they will literally breathe life into their environments through Blockly code. Every character will be programmed to move, fly, jump, whatever you can imagine! We've all heard of virtual reality but creating and coding it in person is an entirely different experience!

Our VR students will:

  • Use an intuitive toolbox to create their own 3D characters, buildings, and scenes
  • Experiment with 3D modeling
  • Develop spatial skills
  • Bring their characters to life using a graphical interface
  • Experience their worlds using 360-degree virtual environments
  • Create various scenes that will be shared with fellow students

After students have completed their realities, they will be able to use their smart phones (or borrow a parents’) to download an app and try it with a take-home cardboard Google VR headset, which is theirs to keep. All students will receive access to the virtual reality software for up to one year after taking part in the course.
