Youth Programs

Student Activities

While our summer youth programs are centered on academics, the daily program includes a variety of social and recreational activities in the afternoon and evening hours. These activities are intended to provide students with fresh air, exercise, and social stimulation. Activities are designed for a variety of participant interests with everything from arts and crafts to sports and college-related activities.

Some of the more popular afternoon and evening activities include:

  • Arts & Crafts
  • Basketball
  • Card games and board games
  • Flag Football
  • Hands-on STEM/STEAM Projects
  • Scrapbooking
  • Soccer
  • Social Dance
  • Swimming
  • Visit to the Bronco Student Center and Game Room
  • Volleyball
  • Walking tour of the Arabian Horse Center
  • And more!

All activities are organized and supervised by our trained and experienced team of Activities Coordinators and Chaperones.

Students participating in our summer residential programs will eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner at the university's new Centerpointe Dining Commons. Centerpointe is nestled between the university's new residence halls and the Student Services Building. This new facility, which opened Jan. 21, 2020, offers fresh and local menus for the Cal Poly Pomona community and university guests.

With seating for 680, Centerpointe includes eight dining platforms with delicious and nutritious food stations featuring items such as handmade tortillas, sushi, a carving station, a salad bar featuring campus grown produce, and plenty of vegangluten-free, allergen-free and vegetarian options.

The menu boards at each platform highlight nutritional information, allergens and food preference mapping. In addition, each menu contains a nutrition tool (updated by the Dining Services in-house nutritionist) for customers to determine which food options best fit their nutritional needs and goals.

Two new retail outlets within Centerpointe — Lollicup Fresh® and Jones Coffee Roasters® —offer coffee beverages, flavored milk tea, fruit tea, grab and go items, slushes and smoothies.

Students attending any of our summer residential programs are housed in residences that are used by Cal Poly Pomona undergraduates during the regular school year. The traditional college-style dorms offer double or triple occupancy rooms. The Residence Halls are conveniently located on-campus and are within easy walking distance to the academic buildings, library, computer labs, dining areas and the Bronco Student Center. All halls have a laundry room, study areas, recreation room/TV lounge. The Residence Halls feature a small community atmosphere, spacious lounges on the first two floors and a common garden patio. All halls are co-ed and non-smoking. Boys and girls are housed in separate wings, or on separate floors, of the Residence Halls and are supervised throughout the night by specially trained Resident Assistants. In addition, a 24/7 professional Residence Hall Coordinator is housed in each dorm building.

Cal Poly Pomona faculty and business/industry leaders and professionals who have been selected for expertise in their fields as well as their ability, experience, and passion for teaching middle school and high school students teach our Bronco Academy STEAM Camps, Custom Youth Programs and Migrant Education Programs. Daily classroom instruction is also occasionally supplemented with guest lecturers and special projects.
