Chari Pradel is an art historian specialized in Asian art history (India, Korea and Japan). She is a tenured Professor in the Department of Art at Cal Poly Pomona. Her research focuses on Japanese religious art and ritual from the seventh through the thirteenth centuries.
Pradel received a B.A. in Art from the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos in Lima, Peru, a MA and a PhD in Japanese art history from UCLA. She has taught art history at Cal Poly Pomona since 2004. Before joining CPP, she taught at UCLA, USC, CSU Northridge and CSU Fullerton.
Her most recent publication is the book entitled Fabricating the Tenjukoku ShÅ«chÅ Mandara and Prince ShÅtoku’s Afterlives (Leiden: Brill, 2016), which has been nominated for the R. L. Shep Ethnic Textile Book Award.
