Bio

Dr. Maria J. Ortiz is an Assistant Professor of Marketing at the International Business and Marketing (IBM) Department in the College of Business Administration at Cal Poly Pomona. She has experience teaching undergraduate courses, including Digital Marketing, International Marketing, and Introduction to Marketing, as well as graduate courses, including Online Consumer Psychology and Behaviors.

She is an experimental researcher who focuses on consumer behavior in the areas of socially responsible behavior, online decision-making, and joint consumption. Her research has contributed to the understanding of consumption amount and subscription decisions. Her work has been published in the Psychology & Marketing journal. Her research has been presented at various conferences, including the Association for Consumer Research and the Society for Consumer Psychology.

Before becoming an academic, she was a Project Manager in the Division of Business and Economic Research at the University of New Orleans. She worked on practical research on customer profiles, economic impacts, and market analyses for the New Orleans area and the state of Louisiana. She obtained her Ph.D. in Business Administration - Marketing from Concordia University in Montreal and her Bachelor's and MBA from the University of New Orleans.

She is originally from Ecuador and is fluent in Spanish. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling with her family.
