Linh Dinh Appointed as UPD Chief of Police

Dear Campus Community:

Following a national search, we are pleased to announce the appointment of Linh Dinh as Chief of Police of the University Police Department (UPD), effective Monday, July 25, 2022.

Chief Dinh’s career is defined by his passion for serving educational communities. A longtime law enforcement officer and a credentialed educator, Chief Dinh joins Cal Poly Pomona from the CSU Dominguez Hills Police Department, where he has served as Lieutenant since 2018. He previously spent 13 years with the Montebello Unified School District Police Department, including seven years as Chief of Police. He holds a bachelor’s degree in geography from UCLA and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy.

As Chief of Police, Dinh is responsible for the safety and security of the campus community. To fulfill this mission, Chief Dinh will work closely with the university’s Police and Safety Advisory Committee to promote engagement between UPD and the campus community, advance our commitment to implementing a community policing framework, and align the UPD’s culture and operations with the university values of inclusivity, community engagement and social and environmental responsibility.
