CPP Presidential Transition Update and Timeline

April 8, 2025

Dear Campus Community,

Welcome back to campus following what I hope was a restorative and enjoyable spring break. I am writing to update you on the presidential leadership transition at Cal Poly Pomona.

Since announcing my retirement earlier this year, my office has been working with the Chancellor’s Office to develop a timeline and plan for ensuring a smooth transition. The authority for appointing campus presidents rests with the Chancellor and the Board of Trustees for the CSU. An interim president will likely be appointed in July, followed by the launch of a national search for a permanent president starting in September 2025.

Following the conclusion of the executive search, the new president will be named and announced in early 2026, with the goal of seating them as soon as possible. Please be assured that this transition is being conducted with the utmost care and dedication to our students, faculty and staff. As with all presidential searches, there will be ample opportunities for members of the campus community to provide input in the process and for representatives from the campus to serve on the search committee. The Office of the Chancellor will communicate accordingly about these opportunities in the months ahead.

Serving as president of this university has been the honor of my life. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to work with and for this extraordinary community. In my remaining months, I will continue to work diligently to prepare Cal Poly Pomona for the future and position it for success in the years and decades ahead.

Sincerely,

Soraya M. Coley, Ph.D.
President
