Ann-Katrin Bock’s path to political science began in her first American government class at community college. Growing up in Germany, she was interested in history and current events, but moving to the United States made questions about government, power and political systems feel more immediate. That curiosity grew into a passion for security studies, conflict, geopolitics and international relations. At Cal Poly Pomona, Ann-Katrin has pursued those interests through the CPP Decolonial Interpretivist Research Lab, the Political Research Quarterly Lab, the National Model United Nations Team and the CPP Undergraduate Journal of Political Science. She has also worked in the Graduate Studies Office and as a student grader in the Department of Political Science. Ann-Katrin credits mentors who recognized her potential and encouraged her to pursue opportunities beyond her comfort zone. Growing up on a farm in northern Germany, completing vocational training, training horses and moving to California on her own shaped her resilience and perspective. She hopes to pursue a Ph.D. in political science and international relations, teach at a university and inspire future students.
