Marco David Rayas is drawn to architecture because of its power to create spaces that respond to people’s needs. His interest began in a high school course and grew through the Architecture, Construction and Engineering Mentorship Program, where he first explored the field in depth. Through SoCal National Organization of Minority Architects (NOMA) and Cal Poly Pomona, he found inspiration in the creativity, effort and innovation of studio culture. He is also interested in languages and global exchange, with plans to study abroad in Japan and Italy. Beyond architecture, he enjoys oil painting and tennis. Marco considers his father a role model, crediting him with teaching the discipline needed for success and happiness. Marco lists resilience as one of his defining qualities, as he has learned to adapt to new environments by focusing on growth and opportunity. He hopes to become an architect, pursue graduate study, specialize in interior design, support his family, guide his younger brothers and make a wider impact in his community.
