Michelle Baggett

Major: Master of Science in Agriculture; Plant Science Option

Don B. Huntley College of Agriculture

Activities: CPP Apiary Support; Instructional Support, Plant Science Department; Pollinator Health

Michelle Baggett’s interest in agricultural plant science began with a passion for growing her own food. When she decided to change careers, agriculture offered a meaningful path aligned with her interests in sustainability, food production and plant systems. As she learned more about the essential role that bees play in ecosystems and agriculture, she became interested in bee science, which now shapes her master’s project. At Cal Poly Pomona, Michelle balances graduate study with hands-on opportunities. She helps run the CPP Apiary and provides instructional support for the Department of Plant Science.
Outside school and work, she enjoys family, movies and recharging. Michelle credits Professor Anna Soper as an important mentor and supporter, whose guidance has helped her build confidence. She also draws from her experience living off grid for two years in a school bus she converted into a tiny home, which taught her resourcefulness, sustainability and adaptability. Michelle hopes to continue supporting students at Cal Poly Pomona and eventually broaden her impact through teaching, mentorship, outreach or program development in sustainable agriculture.
