Witnessing the impact of limited mental health resources in his community sparked Orlondo Whalen’s interest in psychology and a desire to help others. Those experiences inspired him to pursue a field where he could improve access to care, support underserved communities and help individuals build healthier lives. Orlondo is a Kellogg Honors College member, a resident advisor at University Village, a research assistant in Professor Travis Miller’s Personality and Sport Psychology Lab, and is the assistant to CPP’s Athletics Facilities & Events Coordinator. He is also a mental health intern with Building Blocks Healthcare Network and The Center for Child Development, while supporting youth as a healthy lifestyles specialist with the Baltimore Ravens Boys & Girls Club. Orlondo’s older brother and role model, a mental health therapist in Baltimore, helped him see mental health as an opportunity to change lives. As a music producer, Orlondo also values creativity. He hopes to earn a Ph.D. in clinical psychology and provide culturally responsive care to communities like the one where he grew up on Chicago’s South Side.
