A curiosity about civil engineering’s many disciplines led Victoria Sandoval Rios to surveying, where she found the perfect blend of technology, mathematics, problem-solving and hands-on fieldwork. She learned that nearly every engineering project begins with a survey. Whether using GPS, drones, computer-aided design (CAD) or legal boundary research, she enjoys work that supports infrastructure, preserves property rights and leaves a lasting impact on communities. At Cal Poly Pomona, Victoria serves as president of the CPP Surveying Team and is active in the CLSA Student Chapter, organizing events, mentoring students and promoting the surveying profession. She also works as a survey technician at Conaway Geomatics. Victoria has been shaped by mentors who encouraged her to pursue opportunities beyond the classroom and introduced her to the surveying profession’s culture of mentorship and service. She especially enjoys bringing people together, connecting students with mentors and industry professionals and helping others recognize their own potential. Looking to the future, Victoria hopes to become both a professional land surveyor and a professional civil engineer, leading complex projects while mentoring future surveyors and engineers.
