The Importance of Self-Care

Good self-care can help you manage the inevitable challenges of life, including the academic, social, and financial stress you’ll likely experience during college.

  • Physical Self-Care: Includes: taking care of your physical health by getting good sleep, feeding yourself well, moving your body in a way that feels to you, keeping up on wellness visits, etc
  • Mental Health Self-Care: Includes: managing your mental health condition, having healthy social media habits, practicing mindfulness, and asking for help when you need it.
  • Emotional Self-Care: Includes: practicing emotional awareness, learning to manage your emotions and feelings, and doing things that make you happy.
  • Spiritual Self-Care: Does not need to involve religion: can include meditating or doing an activity where you feel fully present and connected to yourself.

Remember it's important to take small steps. Give yourself grace & observe your feelings. For more information on self-care visit the Jed Foundation website on resources for self-care.

DRC Tips

Breaking in the New Year with Good Grades

When starting a new semester, it is important to get started on the right foot! The DRC is here to give you some tips about how to tackle a new semester.

What are some tips I can follow to start my semester off strong?

Managing multiple classes at once can be overwhelming. These tips can help you stay organized and successful this spring:

  • Read each class syllabus: Make yourself aware of class expectations as soon as possible to know what you can do to perform well in each class! Learn what the big assignments are and be aware of what you may need to plan ahead for.
  • Keep an agenda/planner: Write down assignments, test dates, office hour availability, and important events for all your classes to help better manage your time.
