What is an Internship?

Internships are a form of experiential learning, typically a quarter or two in length, allowing students to apply theory to practice.  Internships can provide the intern with real world experience to explore and gain relevant knowledge and transferable skills required to enter the working world.  Internships are designed to give the intern the opportunity to work in pre-professional positions and apply academic skills to practical work-based projects.  Internships foster professional development, enable the intern to make networking contacts in their area of interest, and allow companies to view potential full-time employees, who have real experience in the field of their studies.  Internships are an excellent way to begin building these important connections, which are valuable in developing and maintaining a strong professional network for the future.

What is the Value of a Learning Labs Internship at Cal Poly Pomona?

Cal Poly Pomona MHR and Biology students, who participated in our program, share that their internships have proven to be invaluable experiences that allowed them to grow, both personally and professionally.  Our internship  program embraces one of Cal Poly Pomona's core values of "learn by doing."  Students engage in an active hands-on approach to learning, and interact with our diverse community of students, staff, faculty and guests on a daily basis.  HRS is committed to providing successful internships that will prepare interns for their future careers, as they transition from students to business and science professionals.
