Internships

About

Consistent with Cal Poly Pomona's learn-by-doing approach to teaching, the CIS Department has a very active internship program coordinated by Professor Jill Miller

Intern students can be hired at any time of the year. Since Cal Poly Pomona is on a semester system, the preferred employment starting dates coincide with the beginning of a semester: August or January. The CIS 4410 & 4420 Internships classes are not offered during the summer session.

Don’t have an internship? We may be able to help you secure an online internship which allows you to participate in CIS 4410/4420 Internship Class (available only to CIS 4410/4420 registered students). Please email Professor Jill Miller for details.

You must secure an internship with CIS-related duties that will last the entire semester before the add/drop period ends. You will need to provide proof of your employment prior to the last day to drop the class. CIS 4410 and 4420 do not count toward your CIS Advanced Electives units.

If adding the internship units causes you to exceed 20 units, you will need to submit a Petition to Exceed Unit Cap (PDF). The College of Business Administration Student Success Center will no longer accept these forms unless they have been electronically filled in and has your written signature. Please keep in mind that the Department Advisor and the Department Chair need to sign the form prior to submitting the form to the College of Business Administration Student Success Center.

Please check with the CBA Student Success Center on the deadline for submitting the form. The CBA Student Success Center recommends that the unit cap petition be turned in by at least 2 weeks prior to the start of the semester to allow time to complete the process. After the form is fully approved, you will need to take it to the Registrar's Office to add the class by the add/drop deadline.

If you are a potential employer that would like to have your listing posted here, please send an email with the relevant information to the CIS Department Chair Dr. Drew Hwang. Below is a listing of current internship opportunities available to Cal Poly CIS students.
