Dr. Jae Min Jung is a Professor of Marketing and the director of the Center for Customer Insights and Digital Marketing (CCIDM) at Cal Poly Pomona. He received a Ph.D. in Marketing from the University of Cincinnati and an MBA degree with a concentration in Business Statistics from the University of North Texas. Dr. Jung’s research in his early career was focused on the impact of cultural values on various issues of consumer psychology and marketing, including marketing ethics and sales control, social influence (e.g., scarcity and authority strategies), consumers’ preference for unique products, consumers’ retail interaction style, information search and consideration set size, and product recall message. Another branch of his research was aimed to introduce State-Of-Origin effects and consumer reactions to the locally-made branding strategy. Later, his interests expanded to some of the consumer behaviors in tourism and hospitality -- destination marketing messages and apology timing in service failure and recovery for hotels and restaurants. More recently, he also investigated various digital marketing topics such as online advertising (i.e., interactive banner, game ads) and social media marketing. Currently, Dr. Jung is interested in applying econometrics and data science methods to consumer behaviors. His research has been published in renowned journals such as European Journal of Marketing, International Marketing Review, Journal of Business Research, Journal of Consumer Marketing, Journal of Cross-Cultural Psychology, Journal of Personal Selling and Sales Management, Marketing letters, Public Relations Review, and Psychology & Marketing. He is also a member of the editorial review board for the Journal of Business Research. Dr. Jung has been a member of various professional organizations including the American Marketing Association and the Association for Consumer Research. He has also received numerous grants and awards on and off campus. Dr. Jung has taught various courses including Data Mining for Marketing Decisions, Marketing Analytics, and Customer Insights Consultancy Program, and Data Wrangling and Visualization Certificate Program. His research and teaching efforts earned him recognitions, including the prestigious Jagdish N. Sheth Best Research Award, the Wall of COOL, Teacher-Scholar Program Award, and Faculty of the Year Award. Prior to returning to academia, he worked at Hankook Tire Manufacturing, Inc.

Dr. Jung is the founding director of the Center for Customer Insights and Digital Marketing (CCIDM), which originates from his Behavioral Business Research Lab that was started in 2009. As the director, Dr. Jung positions the center’s missions, plans long-term and short-term objectives, and executes the plans with the center’s student workers. Dr. Jung also collaborates with center faculty advisors and industry professionals on the center’s Advisory Council to offer cutting edge student success programs. Dr. Jung is passionate about incorporating practical, hands-on activities into his teaching to help students understand market research concepts in a concrete context. This pedagogy has led to (1) CCIDM’s internship program, (2) Customer Insights Consultancy (CIC) Program, and (3) student club, which are the three pillars of the center’s student success programs. Students participating in the internship program provide workshops on the topic of their choice, often related to their positions in Digital Marketing and Customer Analytics as well as their research positions. In addition, Dr. Jung also engages in research projects with students that are presented in various conferences and competitions. Dr. Jung also co-runs the Customer Insights Consultancy (CIC) Program with Dr. Stein in which they help students consult local businesses and organizations based on solid market research, benefiting both students and businesses tremendously. To help students enthusiastic about customer insights and analytics network with professionals, Dr. Jung founded the Cal Poly Pomona Market Research Club in 2013, and currently co-advises the club (now renamed as a Cal Poly Pomona Analytics and Marketing Insights (AMI) Club). 

These student success programs have resulted in many accolades for students. Dr. Jung’s students frequently present their works in various academic and professional conferences and case competitions, winning prestigious honors and awards and publishing in academic journals and conference proceedings.
