Frequently Asked Questions

The Bronco Startup Challenge is a university-wide business pitch competition designed to challenge students from different backgrounds, specialties, and interests to bring their vision to life. From ideation to a solid business plan, the competition facilitates the growth of innovative students.

The goal is to help Cal Poly Pomona students develop visioning and oral communication skills uniquely created though a business pitch competition.The competition also builds a community that fosters innovation, creativity, and resilience. Finally, students will receive the necessary skills and knowledge to launch their new ventures.

This competition is open to all Cal Poly Pomona students.

As long as 1 member on your team is currently enrolled at Cal Poly Pomona, team members from other universities are applicable.

Teams can be arranged on your own before signing up. If you need help finding team members, we will gladly help you. Each semester there is at least one event designed to have interested parties get to know each other and form teams to participate in the startup events.

  • In addition to offering workshops, the Student Innovation Idea Labs (SIIL) oversee the campus maker spaces, known as the Maker Studio, iLab and the Innovation Orchard. Each space has the following capabilities to support your

    · iLab (Bldg1, Rm 113) – This space is dedicated to ideation and designing you next big idea. The iLab consists of a large meeting room able to accommodate 20 people, as well as two smaller project meeting rooms capable of hosting smaller groups of eight (1-113B) or three people (1-113A). Each of the rooms in 1-113 can be reserved using the room reservation system. The iLab also hosts a small number of fabrication tools including 3D Printers, a vinyl sticker cutter, a soldering station and basic hand tools.

    · Maker Studio (Library, 2nd floor) – This space is dedicated to creativity and creation where people gather to develop ideas and to fabricate a variety of products based on their interests. The provided tools can help you build your projects and bring your ideas to life, whether it be for classes or your own personal use. Some of the tools available include 3d printers, sewing/embroidery machine, laser cutter, vinyl sticker cutter, enlarged electronics fabrication and various hand tools.

    · Innovation Orchard (Rm 91, Ganesha High School) – This is an open-space environment that includes tools to build larger messier projects. At the IO is where we house our wood working and metal working tools as well as our largest 3D printer. Students use the space to do resin casting projects and other projects that do not fit well in the tiled/carpeted interiors of the iLab or the Maker Studio
