SoCalGas Industry Project

SoCalGas is the largest natural gas distribution utility company in the US. This project explores the feasibility waste to energy conversion technologies and the necessary steps to build and operate biodigesters at CSU campuses. With support from SoCalGas, faculty and students from the Colleges of Business and Engineering are working on helping a wide range of stakeholders better understand the requirements, impacts, economics and policies needed to encourage adoption of these strategies and ensure sustainability.

The goals of this project are to:

  • Assess the feasibility of establishing a pilot waste-to-energy program around CPP, utilizing a local digester
  • Develop a business case for implementation of this pilot program
  • Publish a roadmap for how other CSU campuses and institutions can establish similar community programs
  • More than 30 Business and Engineering students benefited from this hands-on learning experience.
  • This project also provided funding for student assistantships.
