CPP to Be Represented at Sustainability Conference

More than 30 park leaders from around the world will assemble near the Sierra Nevada mountains in 2019 for a conference on sharing strategies aimed at ensuring long-term sustainability of the planet’s national parks.

The Ernest and Julio Gallo Management Program at University of California, Merced will present the National Parks Institute 10-Day Executive Leadership Seminar scheduled to begin April 22, 2019. Previous iterations of the summit have featured keynote speakers like U.S. President Jimmy Carter and National Park Service Director Robert G. Stanton.

Among the event draws is the case-challenge segment where each participant brings a unique issue facing local management and the group collectively develops an implementable action plan to take home. Tactics crafted by top professionals in their field are one of the reasons College of Business Administration Dean Erik Rolland urged Cal Poly Pomona to lend the program its support for the first time.

Before joining the CBA, Rolland’s role of interim dean and professor at the Gallo Management Program had first-hand experience with the National Parks Institute Executive Leadership Seminar. Along with the UC Merced, Cal Poly Pomona joins the Institute at the Golden Gate and Stanford Graduate School of Business as partners for the 2019 event.

Divided into segments, exploration begins at historic Fort Baker and the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, where the key foundational concepts for the course are set by Stanford Graduate School of Business Professor Charles O’Reilly. The next stop is UC Merced for where the university’s world-class researchers meld research, technology, innovation and leadership to scrutinize resource challenges and provide management recommendations. The seminar culminates in breathtaking Yosemite National Park.
