Financial Aid & Scholarship Questions
You apply for the Partners in Education (PIE) Fellowship through the Bronco Scholarship Portal (BSP) using a direct URL provided by the department in an email to students preparing for clinical practice. After the committee reviews applications, the PIE Coordinator will contact the Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships to confirm potential candidates have room in their Cost of Attendance for the fellowship. The total amount of financial aid cannot exceed your Cost of Attendance. Turnaround time is typically 3–5 business days after The Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships receives the request.
Applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria:
- minimum 3.0 GPA upon entering the credential program;
- fully admitted to the credential program;
- first credential in progress;
- not employed as an intern teacher or in a teacher residency; and
- enrolled in clinical practice in Fall 2025 or Spring 2026.
- PIE also requires eligibility approval from the Financial Aid Office.
PIE posts its specific dates on the PIE site each year. The application cycle opens between September through October for award period for the following Spring and next Fall.
It depends, the total amount of assistance from all sources cannot exceed the Cal Poly Pomona yearly Cost of Attendance (COA). If the addition of the PIE Fellowship would put you over that budget, Financial Aid will adjust other aid in the most advantageous way for you, often starting by reducing work-study and loans before grants when possible.
Yes. File every year. It keeps you eligible for other aid and lets us coordinate PIE fellowship with your package; PIE fellowship may not cover all living costs or every term.
It depends. If your actual expenses are higher than what’s in your cost of attendance breakdown, you can submit a Special Circumstance/COA Adjustment Request through the Student Forms portal, If approved, this may create room for PIE fellowship without reducing other aid.
No. The PIE Fellowship is designated for living expenses only therefore the funds will be refunded via your chosen method (direct deposit or check).
PIE Fellowship lists the award as “up to $5,000.” At CPP, scholarships typically release to your account ~10 days before the start of the awarding term(s).
PIE Fellowships are tied to the award period in the official agreement. Exceptions are rare and, if considered, are coordinated by the department (and sometimes the donor).
The department notifies Financial Aid/PIE Coordinator about eligibility changes. If you no longer meet eligibility (e.g., placement canceled), the fellowship may be canceled or delayed accordingly. (Students don’t need to submit a separate form for this.)
After the PIE Coordinator sends the recipient list, Financial Aid posts the fellowship to your BroncoDirect Award Summary (allow 3–5 business days). You’ll receive a system-generated email within 24 hours of posting confirming the change.
Email scholarships@cpp.edu and mention “PIE Fellowship” in the subject line, be sure to include your Bronco ID within the body of the email.
Scholarships/fellowships are reported as financial aid resources. CPP issues Form 1098-T annually to eligible students to help with tax filing; forms are available in BroncoDirect/mailed each January (on or before the federal deadline). Please consult a tax professional about your specific situation.
It depends. Holds or adjustments can occur if, for example, your aid eligibility changed after an appeal, you have outstanding To-Dos, or there’s a balance due. Aid (including scholarships) releases starting 10 days before classes when all requirements are complete. Check your To-Do List and Account Activity in BroncoDirect.
Yes. You can submit a Special Circumstance/COA Adjustment Request through the Student Forms portal, with documentation for additional, allowable expenses. A financial aid counselor can help you understand what qualifies and how to submit a complete, timely request. It is easy to make a virtual appointment on CPP Connect.
