Bachelor of Science Electromechanical Systems Engineering Technology
About the Major
Build the intelligent systems that power modern industry. Design, integrate, and troubleshoot the mechanical, thermal, electronic, and control systems that keep technology moving. Cal Poly Pomona’s Electromechanical Systems Engineering Technology program leads to a Bachelor of Science degree and prepares you to become a valuable member of today’s engineering teams through a hands-on, applications-focused education.
Electromechanical engineering technology bridges the gap between mechanical systems and electronics, combining principles of mechanics, thermofluids, automation, robotics, and control systems. Accredited by the Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission of ABET, the program emphasizes applied design, system integration, and practical problem-solving to prepare students for real-world engineering challenges.
From advanced manufacturing and robotics to HVAC systems, energy applications, and industrial automation, the program gives you the technical foundation and hands-on experience to design, analyze, operate, and improve complex electromechanical systems.
You After Graduation
Cal Poly Pomona electromechanical systems engineering technology graduates become effective contributors on engineering teams across a wide range of industries. They apply their knowledge of mechanical systems, electronics, instrumentation, and controls to support the design, testing, production, and operation of modern technologies.
Graduates pursue careers in fields such as manufacturing, robotics, HVAC, automation, aerospace, and systems integration. Career opportunities include roles such as Systems Engineer, Test and Evaluation Engineer, Field Service Engineer, HVAC Engineer, Maintenance Engineer, Process Engineer, and Mechanical Engineer.
Many graduates continue developing their expertise through professional certifications, graduate education, participation in professional societies, and lifelong learning opportunities that help them advance as engineering professionals.
Your Program, Your Future
The electromechanical systems engineering technology program combines engineering fundamentals with hands-on technical experience. Students begin with a foundation in mathematics, science, and engineering principles before advancing into the integrated systems that define the discipline.
Coursework explores mechanical and thermofluid systems, including statics, dynamics, strength of materials, fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, heat transfer, HVAC, machine elements, and manufacturing processes. Students also develop expertise in electronics, instrumentation, controls, robotics, computer programming, and system integration.
Through laboratory experiences and applied design projects, students learn how to analyze, build, test, and improve real-world systems. The curriculum emphasizes teamwork, communication, and practical engineering solutions, preparing graduates to quickly contribute in professional engineering environments.
Students also have opportunities to participate in professional organizations such as the Mechanical Contractors Association of America (MCAA) and pursue scholarships supported through industry partners, including organizations such as the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE).
