What are Honors Classes?

Honors (H) classes are special sections of mostly General Education classes available only to Kellogg Honors College (KHC) students. H classes are limited to 20 students. KHC students must complete a minimum number of H classes before graduation. The minimum is determined by how students joined the KHC and includes the Engaged Learning Experience project.

Current Honors Students

How many Honors Courses should I take?

There is no maximum limit on Honors classes. KHC students are advised to take a Honors class every semester, but it is not required. Starting Spring 2024, honors class lists and Priority Registration instructions are available on the KHC Canvas page.

Freshman Admits

KHC scholars admitted as freshmen must complete a total of 7 Honors classes before graduation: 6 GE Honors courses plus CPU 4990H, the required course that accompanies the Engaged Learning Experience (ELE) requirement. Freshmen are also required to take CPU 2990H during their first Fall semester, a 1-unit course that does not count toward the 7-course total.

Sophomore Admits

KHC scholars admitted as sophomores must complete a total of 5 Honors classes before graduation: 4 GE Honors courses plus CPU 4990H, the required course that accompanies the Engaged Learning Experience (ELE) requirement. The one-unit course, CPU 2990H, is optional but encouraged for sophomore admits and does not count toward the 5-course total.

Transfer Admits

KHC scholars admitted as transfer students must complete a total of 4 Honors classes before graduation: 3 GE Honors courses plus CPU 4990H, the required course that accompanies the Engaged Learning Experience (ELE) requirement. CPU 2990H is optional but encouraged for transfer admits. The one-unit course, CPU 2990H, is optional but encouraged for transfer admits and does not count toward the 4-course total.
