About the Program

A degree in agricultural science will equip you with the knowledge and skills needed to address critical challenges in sustainable food production, environmental stewardship and global food security. Blending science, technology and hands-on experience, this interdisciplinary program prepares you to work in general agriculture, animal science, agribusiness, agricultural education and research.

The Polytechnic Experience

Transform into a skilled professional prepared to meet the demands of a rapidly evolving and advancing agricultural sector. Learn by doing laboratory experiments, crop and livestock management, greenhouse operations, precision agriculture technology and sustainable agricultural practices. Work directly on university-operated farms, research fields, and agricultural enterprises to gain the ability to tackle real-world agricultural challenges. Engage with local and national agricultural industries through internships, cooperative education and projects that connect you with potential employers. Develop critical thinking skills by solving complex issues, from basic animal management to improving crop yields and implementing sustainable practices.

Courses

When it comes to potential careers, the Agricultural Science program gives students both variety and versatility. Coursework in the major covers all areas of agriculture, preparing students for many different career tracks. Agricultural Science will provide you with a STEM-based education and lots of hands-on experience on our farm and animal units. You’ll put theory into practice. Students also can combine the major’s general-purpose curriculum with the specific focus of one of our many minors.

Brett Chandler: President of Associates Insectary

The Distinguished Alumni Awards program has been a tradition at Cal Poly Pomona since 1961. It is the highest honor given by the Alumni Association and recognizes individuals who demonstrate distinguished professional achievement, community involvement and service to the university. Mr. Chandler was awarded the Distinguished alumni award for his contributions to agriculture through innovative pest management.
