With a combination of theory and application in classrooms, labs, and internships, you will be prepared for a diverse range of careers in all aspects of the fashion industry. The Apparel Merchandising and Management program has three options that allow you to specialize in your upper-division coursework: Apparel Design and Production, Fashion Retailing, and Textile Technology and Sustainability. No matter your emphasis, you will receive a broad, interdisciplinary background in product design, technology, manufacturing, and retail processes.

Apparel Merchandising and Management

The Polytechnic Experience

Be an active participant in the apparel industry from your first day on campus. Learn in actual manufacturing and retailing facilities full of industry-standard equipment. Make patterns and construct garments, test textiles and create digital designs. Develop sustainable practices, produce a clothing line, or manage an on-campus retail store. Use the program’s industry connections to participate in internships. Here, you will cultivate the skills and make the connections to join top names in the design and retail industries.

Courses

The Apparel Merchandising and Management program prepares students for leadership roles in what is a dynamic and global business sector. Career opportunities are diverse, embracing areas such as design, product development, manufacturing, merchandising, international sourcing, retail buying, visual merchandising, store operations management, and brand management. The Bachelor of Science in Apparel Merchandising and Management has three options: Apparel Production and Management, Fashion Retailing, and Textile Technology and Sustainability. These options, similar at the freshman, sophomore and beginning junior levels, diverge in the balance of upper division coursework into one of three areas of specialization. Graduates will have experience in all areas of the apparel business from market research through product development, production, wholesale and retail distribution, and brand marketing. Through a combination of coursework and internship, graduates will be prepared for managerial and executive level career paths.
