Textile Technology & Sustainability

The Polytechnic Experience

Test textile strength, flammability, and weather resistance using advanced lab equipment. Study the physical and chemical properties of fibers and dyes, experiment with application methods, and analyze innovative textiles for market use—all while evaluating sustainable practices and processes.

Courses

Cal Poly Pomona's Textile Technology and Sustainability option in the Bachelor of Science in Apparel Merchandising and Management (AMM) equips students with expertise in fiber and fabric selection, digital design, and sustainable product innovation. This specialization focuses on integrating advanced textile technologies with sustainable practices to meet the growing demand for eco-friendly fashion solutions. Students engage in hands-on projects, such as working in digital design labs and garment construction facilities, and benefit from real-world experiences equivalent to two years of industry work. Located in Los Angeles County, a key fashion and textile hub, the program offers unique opportunities to develop and test sustainable textile innovations and participate in industry tradeshows. With a curriculum that combines technical skills with a strong emphasis on sustainability, graduates are prepared for roles in textile development, product design, and sustainability management. The program’s small class sizes and dedicated faculty provide personalized instruction and support, ensuring that students are well-prepared to address the challenges and opportunities in the evolving textile industry.
