The Polytechnic Experience

Create medical, legal, and literary translations for community projects. Produce creative texts, podcasts, and videos. Courses

Cal Poly Pomona’s Bachelor of Arts in Spanish is designed to develop high-level trans-lingual and trans-cultural competence in students, whether they are heritage or second-language learners. This major prepares students to thrive professionally in environments where Spanish is the primary language. Through a comprehensive curriculum that includes linguistics and literature courses, students gain an in-depth understanding of the Spanish language's intricacies and broader linguistic principles. Literature courses also hone essential skills in critical reading, writing, argumentation, and cultural analysis, fostering a deep cultural competence. The program boasts a strong record of placing graduates in prestigious Spanish Ph.D. programs, particularly within the UC system, and equips students with the expertise needed for international careers or positions in transnational companies within the U.S. Additionally, the Spanish B.A. is an ideal pathway for those aspiring to teach Spanish at the middle or high school level, providing the subject matter competency required to pursue a Single Subject Credential in Spanish.
