Evan Nuñez, a Physics and Astronomy Junior, wins Chambliss Astronomy Achievement Student Award
Cal Poly Pomona junior Evan Nuñez was named one of five undergraduate winners of the prestigious Chambliss Astronomy Achievement Student Awards at the recent American Astronomical Society (AAS) meeting held in Washington D.C. in January. His poster presentation, "“Characterizing Intermediate-Mass Pre-Main-Sequence Stars via X-Ray Emission,” was based on research he did with Matthew Povich and Breanna Binder of the Cal Poly Pomona Department of Physics and Astronomy.
Quoting from the AAS website, "The Astronomy Achievement Student Awards are given to recognize exemplary research by undergraduate and graduate students who present at one of the poster sessions at the meetings of the AAS. Awardees are honored with a Chambliss medal or, in the case of honorable mention, a certificate."
Here is the AAS press release about the award. As they note, only 5 undergraduate presentations were selected out of over 100 entries.
