Would you like to hold a physical copy of your designs? Well, look no further! Along with a workshop to teach you everything you need to know, the iLab and Maker Studio both provide free 3D printing for students. Register for our 3D printing training to get certified and learn how to create tangible versions of your own designs!

FAQs
We require everyone to print their own parts, so everyone must be certified to use the 3D printers. To become certified, you only need to attend a single session of the 3D printing workshops that occur at either the iLab or the Maker Studio. Walk-ins are allowed!
The 3D printing workshop is mainly for beginners or anyone who needs a refresher. If you'd like to get certified without attending the workshop, you can either stop by during the 3D printing office hours or schedule an appointment with our technicians by sending us an email.
After you are certified, you can start a 3D print at any time while a space is open. If a print is scheduled to finish after a space closes, you can leave it there over-night and pick it up the next business day. 3D printers are first-come-first-serve, so please use printers only when they are unoccupied.
We provide 30 hours of free 3D printing per semester, but you can attend any of our SIIL-sponsored events to receive an additional 10 hours per event. Otherwise, you are free to use the printers without a limit if you bring and use your own filament.
We mainly provide PLA, ABS, PETG, and TPU, depending on the type of 3D printer. If you would like to use a different material, you are free to bring your own as long as it is usable by a printer. If you are unsure whether a printer can accept a certain material, please contact us.
No; please convert your file to a .STL, .OBJ, .X3D, or .3MF before processing it through Cura. For more information, please attend our 3D printing workshop.
Cura is an open source slicing application, used to prepare your 3D models for printing. You can download it for free or use it from one of the computers at our spaces. If you would like to learn how to use it, you can attend one of our 3D printing workshops!
No; SIIL does not provide printing commissions. If you would like to print something at one of the spaces, please attend one of our workshops to become certified and print the parts yourself.
Yes! But you are responsible for all of your own prints, so if you leave the space while they are printing, be careful that they are not misplaced.
As long as it is school-appropriate, you can print anything that you like!
