Refund Policy

Refund Policy for Summer 2024

RESULTING FROM WITHDRAWING OR DROPPING ALL or Some CLASSES

Students will be entitled to a full refund of mandatory fees and tuition fee ONLY if they cancel their registration or drop ALL classes PRIOR TO FIRST DAY OF INSTRUCTION for a term (prior to Wednesday, May 28, 2024  for Summer 2024 Term).

  • 10 Weeks Session  Students who drop classes between May 29, 2024 - July 11, 2024, will be entitled to a pro-rata refund. (This may not apply to Early Start/Bronco Scholars)
  • 1st 5 Weeks Session Students who drop classes between May 29, 2024 - June 18, 2024, will be entitled to a pro-rata refund. (This may not apply to Early Start/Bronco Scholars)
  • 2nd 5 Weeks Session Students who drop classes between July 3, 2024 - July 23, 2024, will be entitled to a pro-rata refund. (This may not apply to Early Start/Bronco Scholars)  

 

The pro-rata refund is determined on the basis of the date of the student's withdrawal and the length of the academic period.  The length of the academic period is calculated from the first day of instruction through end of classes of the academic period and excludes any breaks of five (5) days or more.

How to estimate Pro-rated refund:

Summer percent charged per day =

  • 10 Week Session         1.4285% per day
  • 1st 5 Week Session     2.8571%  per day
  • 2nd 5 Week Session     2.9411% per day

Example:

    1. An undergrad student, who enrolled in a 10-week Session 11-unit course totaling $4,351.32, withdraws from all their classes on June 6, 2024 (9 days for OU 10-week session).
    2. 9 (days enrolled in classes) x 1.42857% = 12.85713%
    3. $4,351.32 (term charges - 11 units) x 12.85713 % = $559.45 (Final term charges after dropping).
    4. $4,351.32 (payment) - $559.45 = $3,791.87 minus $5.00 administrative charge, estimated refund amount = $3,786.87.

Exceptions:  Tuition and mandatory fees shall be refunded and no administrative charge if:

    • Tuition and Mandatory fees were assessed or collected in error,
    • The course for which the tuition and mandatory fees were assessed or collected was canceled by the university,
    • The university makes a delayed decision that the student was not eligible to enroll in the term for which the mandatory fees were assessed and collected and the delayed decision was not due to incomplete or inaccurate information provided by the student.
    • The student was activated for compulsory military service.

RESULTING FROM WITHDRAWING OR DROPPING ALL CLASSES

Students will be entitled to a full refund of mandatory fees, non-resident tuition, and tuition fee ONLY if they cancel their registration or drop ALL classes PRIOR TO FIRST DAY OF THE SEMESTER for an academic term (prior to January 20, 2024, for Spring 2024 Term).

Students who drop ALL classes on or after January 20, 2024 and up to 60% point in academic period (March 28, 2024, for Spring 2024) will be entitled to a pro-rata refund.

The pro-rata refund is determined on the basis of the date of the student's withdrawal and the length of the academic period. The length of the academic period is calculated from the first day of instruction through the final exam day of the academic period and excludes any breaks of five (5) days or more.

How to calculate Pro-rated refund:

  1. Count number of days from January 20, 2024 to actual withdrawal date. 
  2. Divide the number of days by 112 (number of days in Spring 2024) and multiply it by actual fees paid to get your pro-rated fee. 
  3. Subtract pro-rated fee from actual fees paid. This will be your refund, minus an administrative charge of $5.00.

Estimate Example :

  1. A student, who is a resident and a full-time undergrad, withdraws from all his/her classes on February 2, 2024 (15 days). 
  2. 15/112 x $3,721.11 = $498.36
  3. $3,721.11 - $498.36= $3,222.75 less $5.00 administrative charge, refund amount = $3,217.75.

Exceptions: Tuition and mandatory fees shall be refunded and no administrative charge if:

  • Tuition and Mandatory fees were assessed or collected in error,
  • The course for which the tuition and mandatory fees were assessed or collected was canceled by the university,
  • The university makes a delayed decision that the student was not eligible to enroll in the term for which the mandatory fees were assessed and collected and the delayed decision was not due to incomplete or inaccurate information provided by the student.
  • The student was activated for compulsory military service.

REFUND RESULTING FROM DROPPING SOME BUT NOT ALL UNITS:

Students who drop some but not all units resulting in a lower Tuition Fee and Non-Resident Tuition Fee (NRT) within the campus designated drop period (on or before February 2, 2024 for Spring 2024 term) and in accordance with campus procedures will be entitled to a refund of the applicable difference in Tuition Fee levels (full time 6.1 units or more) to (part time 6.0 or less) and the number of units charged for NRT.

ALL REFUNDS ARE AUTOMATED AND WILL BE SUBJECT TO A $5.00 ADMINISTRATIVE FEE.

Refund will be processed and mailed to your address of record after February 17, 2024.

Note: For students receiving financial aid, please be aware that any refund resulting from withdrawal or a change in program will first be credited to the financial aid funds awarded.

Refund Policy for Summer 2023

RESULTING FROM WITHDRAWING OR DROPPING ALL or Some CLASSES

Students will be entitled to a full refund of mandatory fees and tuition fee ONLY if they cancel their registration or drop ALL classes PRIOR TO FIRST DAY OF INSTRUCTION for a term (prior to Wednesday, May 31, 2023  for Summer 2023 Term).

OU Students who drop  classes between  May 31, 2023 - July 12, 2023 will be entitled to a pro-rata refund. (This may not apply to Early Start Students)

OU1 Students who drop  classes between May 31, 2023 - June 20, 2023 will be entitled to a pro-rata refund. (This may not apply to Early Start Students)

OU2 Students who drop  classes between July 6, 2023 - July 25, 2023 will be entitled to a pro-rata refund. (This may not apply to Early Start Students)

Example:

    1. A student, who withdraws from all his classes on June 6, 2023 (7 days for OU).
    2. 7 (days enrolled in classes) x 1.36986% = 9.58902%
    3. $2,721.32 (term charges - 5 units) x 9.58902% = $260.98 (Final term charges after dropping)
    4. $2,721.32 (payment) - $260.98 = $2,460.34 minus $5.00 administrative charge, estimated refund amount = $2,455.34.

Exceptions:  Tuition and mandatory fees shall be refunded and no administrative charge if:

    • Tuition and Mandatory fees were assessed or collected in error,
    • The course for which the tuition and mandatory fees were assessed or collected was canceled by the university,
    • The university makes a delayed decision that the student was not eligible to enroll in the term for which the mandatory fees were assessed and collected and the delayed decision was not due to incomplete or inaccurate information provided by the student.
    • The student was activated for compulsory military service.

Students who drop ALL classes on or after August 24, 2023 and up to 60% point in academic period (November 1, 2023 for Fall 2023) will be entitled to a pro-rata refund.

The pro-rata refund is determined on the basis of the date of the student's withdrawal and the length of the academic period. The length of the academic period is calculated from the first day of instruction through the final exam day of the academic period and excludes any breaks of five (5) days or more.

How to calculate Pro-rated refund:

  1. Count number of days from August 24, 2023, to actual withdrawal date. 
  2. Divide the number of days by 116 (number of days in Fall 2023) and multiply it by actual fees paid to get your pro-rated fee. 
  3. Subtract pro-rated fee from actual fees paid. This will be your refund, minus an administrative charge of $5.00.

Estimate Example :

  1. A student, who is a resident and a full-time undergrad, withdraws from all his/her classes on September 7, 2023 (15 days). 
  2. 15/116 x $3,721.11 = $481.18
  3. $3,721.11 - $481.18 = $3,239.93 less $5.00 administrative charge, refund amount = $3,234.93.

Exceptions: Tuition and mandatory fees shall be refunded and no administrative charge if:

  • Tuition and Mandatory fees were assessed or collected in error,
  • The course for which the tuition and mandatory fees were assessed or collected was canceled by the university,
  • The university makes a delayed decision that the student was not eligible to enroll in the term for which the mandatory fees were assessed and collected and the delayed decision was not due to incomplete or inaccurate information provided by the student.
  • The student was activated for compulsory military service.

The length of the academic period is calculated from the first day of instruction through the final exam day of the academic period and excludes any breaks of five (5) days or more.

How to calculate Pro-rated refund:

  1. Count number of days from January 21, 2023 to actual withdrawal date. 
  2. Divide the number of days by 112 (number of days in Spring 2023) and multiply it by actual fees paid to get your pro-rated fee. 
  3. Subtract pro-rated fee from actual fees paid. This will be your refund, minus an administrative charge of $5.00.

Estimate Example :

  1. A student, who is a resident and a full-time undergrad, withdraws from all his/her classes onFebruary 4, 2023 (15 days). 
  2. 15/112 x $3,721.11 = $498.36
  3. $3,721.11 - $498.36= $3,222.75 less $5.00 administrative charge, refund amount = $3,217.75.

Exceptions: Tuition and mandatory fees shall be refunded and no administrative charge if:

  • Tuition and Mandatory fees were assessed or collected in error,
  • The course for which the tuition and mandatory fees were assessed or collected was canceled by the university,
  • The university makes a delayed decision that the student was not eligible to enroll in the term for which the mandatory fees were assessed and collected and the delayed decision was not due to incomplete or inaccurate information provided by the student.

The pro-rata refund is determined on the basis of the date of the student's withdrawal and the length of the academic period. The length of the academic period is calculated from the first day of instruction through the final exam day of the academic period and excludes any breaks of five (5) days or more.

How to calculate the Pro-rated refund:

  1. Count the number of days from August 25, 2022, to the actual withdrawal date. 
  2. Divide the number of days by 116 (number of days in Fall 2022) and multiply it by the actual fees paid to get your pro-rated fee. 
  3. Subtract the pro-rated fee from the actual fees paid. This will be your refund, minus an administrative charge of $5.00.


Estimate Example :

  1. A student, who is a resident and a full-time undergrad, withdraws from all his/her classes on September 8, 2022 (15 days).
  2. 15/116 x $3,721.11 = $481.18
  3. $3,721.11 - $481.18 = $3,239.93 less $5.00 administrative charge, refund amount = $3,234.93.

CSU Fee Policy  

The CSU makes every effort to keep student costs to a minimum. Tuition and fees listed in published schedules or student accounts may need to be increased when public funding is inadequate. Therefore, CSU reserves the right, even after tuition or fees are initially charged or initial payments are made, to increase or modify any listed tuition or fees. All listed fees, other than mandatory systemwide tuition, are subject to change without notice, until the date when instruction for a particular semester or quarter has begun. All CSU-listed tuition and fees should be regarded as estimates that are subject to change upon approval by the Board of Trustees, the chancellor or the presidents, as appropriate. Changes in mandatory systemwide tuition will be made in accordance with the requirements of the Working Families Student Fee Transparency and Accountability Act (Sections 66028 through 66028.6 of the California Education)
