Interview with Si Pei

Si Pei Student Spotlight

January 2023

I’m Si Pei, and I was born, raised, and educated in China. I am currently pursuing a Business Degree at Cal Poly Pomona University as a Senior student. Additionally, I’m the current president of the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP) Club at CPP. During the summer of 2022, I accepted a 10-week internship at Amazon as an area manager. My performance at Amazon earned me a formal job offer upon completion of my business degree.

My plan following graduation is to continue working for Amazon as an area manager. With this job, I hope to gain more experience and knowledge in the operations field. Ideally, I wish to develop more leadership skills and people skills. In three years, I plan to become an operations manager and pursue a master's degree in supply chain management.

My greatest passion and career interest is solving problems and improving processes. The specific industry I would love to gain experience in is retail and hospitality. I believe I will gain knowledge of process improvement and people management by dedicating myself to the industry.

Currently, I am the president of the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP) club. I led a team of five that orchestrated all the events and workshops for our students. Being president of a club can be easy and difficult. It is time-consuming. But the result is worth the effort. Leadership and communication skills will be developed while you put yourself into it.

In the summer of 2022, I earned an internship as an area manager with Amazon. Aside from the company itself, I believe the experience was positive. All the opportunities and support to develop processes were provided by the company. I got the chance to apply my knowledge to the real world. I also had a summer internship experience in 2018 as a Human Resources Intern with HMart. I discovered my career interests and passions after applying for different internships.
