Survivor Advocacy Services

Finding Support

For Survivors/Victims

If you are in immediate danger or feel like you are not safe, please call 9-1-1 or the University Police Department (909)869-3070 if you are on campus. Safety is a main priority and if possible, remove yourself from any hostile situation and seek refuge where you feel safe. (i.e. a friend or family member’s home)

If you have been physically harmed or have any existing physical injuries, consider seeking medical attention immediately. If you want access to a forensic exam, Pomona Valley Hospital can offer you one. (Read more about forensic exams)

If you are hesitant to see a medical provider alone or feel unsafe to do so, there are hospital accompaniments. You have the right to an advocate or support person at all times. Please refer to other resources provided for more information with our partner agencies, Project Sister Family Services & House of Ruth

Our campus Survivor Advocate Service Coordinator is a professional staff who is here to offer you support and allow you to consider options in a safe and supportive environment. Refer to contact information on the right.

There a range of resources on and off campus who work with individuals who share similar experiences. Below are the Resources on campus. Some are completely confidential and some are not. For options on reporting an incident, please refer to the Reporting page

For Friends and Family members

Remind your loved one that what happened is not their fault. While you may not understand or know everything, it is important for a victim/survivor to feel like they have been heard.

Affirm their feelings in that they are valid and that there is nothing wrong with how they may be feeling.

Listen to understand rather than listening to respond. Your loved one needs an ear to listen more than a coach telling them what to do.
Let them make their decisions on their own; it is important for them to reclaim power and control that they may have lost.

Share with them that Survivor Advocacy Services can assist them with processing their trauma and coordinating any further services that they may need.

While you may be tempted to keep everything secretive and your loved one may even ask you to promise not to say anything, it is best to use your own judgement.

If your friend is in immediate physical danger, at risk of hurting themselves or another person, please utilize resources that are listed on our website and/or call 911 if it is an emergency.
