A Cal Poly Pomona agribusiness and food industry management professor and lecturer have received invitations to join a coalition of university experts and grocers.
Professor Jon Phillips and Lecturer Katie Horvath will serve on the Food Industry University Coalition. The coalition includes representatives from the National Grocers Association and the university faculty to provide thought leadership to help the food industry deal with its most challenging issues.
Other universities participating in the coalition are Alabama, Auburn, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, Cornell, Fresno State, Illinois, Minnesota, North Carolina State, and Oklahoma State.
The faculty from these universities have different areas of study, ranging from agriculture and economics to food marketing and supply chain management.
Each year, the National Grocers Association sponsors a case study competition for university students. Cal Poly Pomona hopes to send a team to compete next year.
Phillips is the chair of the Department of Agribusiness and Food Industry Management/Agricultural Science.
