The inaugural College of Business Administration (CBA) Dean’s Research Seminar Series features research talks by outstanding CBA faculty members. Distinguished external scholars are invited to build intellectual community. To promote the culture of open inquiry, sharing, and collaboration, we welcome faculty members and graduate students from local universities to participate in these sessions.

Bio:
Dr. Randy Stein is an Associate Professor of Marketing at the College of Business Administration. He received his Ph.D. in Social Psychology from Yale University. He researches how people reason about what’s true and what’s not and how that impacts their decisions. He has published in the Journal of Consumer Research, Communication Research, Journal of Experimental Social Psychology, Social and Personality Psychology Compass, Social Psychological and Personality Science, Venture Capital, and Consciousness and Cognition. His work has been featured on TheConversation.com and the Hear Me Out podcast. Before joining Cal Poly Pomona, Dr. Stein worked at Material Plus, where he executed advanced customer analytics on a wide range of studies for several Fortune 500 companies.

Bio:
Dr. Mengjiao Nancy Du joined Cal Poly Pomona’s Accounting Department at the College of Business in 2018. She graduated from Washington State University with a Ph.D. in Accounting. She teaches managerial accounting, accounting information systems, and international accounting. Dr. Du uses experimental approaches in her research on sustainability reporting, investors’ judgment and decision-making, and cross-cultural differences. Her recent work has been published in Behavioral Research in Accounting and presented at the American Accounting Association.

Bio:
Dr. Iman Hemmatian is an Assistant Professor of Strategic Management at the College of Business Administration at Cal Poly Pomona. He received his Ph.D. in Strategy, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation from the Oregon State University. His primary research interests are technology innovation, human capital, technology entrepreneurship, and innovation policy. His current research focuses on how firms can develop and protect their human and intellectual capital. His work has been published in innovation and management journals, including Research Policy, Global Strategy Journal, and PLOS ONE. Before joining academia, he worked as a mechanical engineer in various industries, such as oil and gas, automotive, and heavy machinery.

Bio:
Professor P.K. Sen joined as a Professor of Accounting at the University of Washington, Bothell, in 2012. Before that, he was an accounting professor at the University of Cincinnati, SUNY Buffalo, and the University of California Berkeley. Professor Sen has an undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering (I.I.T. Kharagpur), a Post Graduate Diploma in Management (I.I.M. Calcutta), and a Ph.D. from Columbia University, New York. Professor Sen teaches Strategic Cost Management, Cost and Managerial Accounting, Accounting Theory, and Accounting-Based Valuation courses. His research interests include economic and game theoretic modeling of disclosure incentives, accounting policy choices, decentralized decisions, budget-based contracts, auditor selection, and audit market structure, empirical analysis of strategic alliances, the January effect, geographical segment disclosure, and incentives for governmental accounting practices and pay. His work has been published, among others, in the Journal of Accounting Research, Accounting Review, Academy of Management Journal, Management Science, Journal of Accounting and Public Policy, Public Choice, Journal of Accounting Auditing and Finance, Journal of Business Finance and Accounting and European Journal of Auditing.
