Cybersecurity & Awareness Fair

CSAF2023 CALL FOR HANDS-ON-DEMONTRATIONS

The Cybersecurity and Awareness Fair (CSAF) would like to announce its inaugural call for hands-on cybersecurity demonstrations at this year’s event on October 26th, from 10am-2pm at the Cal Poly Pomona Bronco Student Center.  The hands-on cybersecurity demonstrations are intended to showcase a security issue and then demonstrate how a user can protect them self or mitigate that issue with new skills that can be immediately applied after the CSAF. Our audience ranges from those who are new to security to the most seasoned practitioners in the security industry. Demonstrations of all skill levels are welcome. To participate, individuals must either be affiliated with an educational institution or a be cybersecurity professional within the industry with valid credentials. The CASF committee will choose the participants based on the quality of the entries and qualifications of the participants. Their decision is final.

This year’s theme is built around privacy and surveillance capitalism concepts. Possible demonstrations could include:

  • AI security, risks, and unintended consequences
  • Securing Browsing (Anti-fingerprint methodologies, Tor, VPN, etc.)
  • Securing users from Android or iOS built in tracking
  • Bias in AI and privacy
  • Tools for home users to secure and monitor their home networks
  • Privacy and Security awareness
  • Tools used for data collection and visualization
  • Tools on network sniffing, intrusion detection, monitoring, forensics
  • Programming for security practitioners
  • Compiling a security tool kit for the average user
  • Incident response for home users

All accepted hands-on demonstrations will be announced, recorded, and published by CSAF.

 FORMAT

  • Each demonstration is intended to be interactive hands-on demonstrations and last about 15-20 minutes, followed by a short Q&A, then repeat from 10am -2pm. Each demo can contain up to two different topics.
  • You will have a simulated classroom style setup in an open hall to teach audience members about cybersecurity awareness. 
  • You will be provided with table(s), surge strip(s), networking as requested, and up to 4 laptops.
