Rebecca Greenwood, is a Senior geology major working this summer (2012) as an intern for Southern California Earthquake Center (SCEC). Her past research endeavors include a summer 2011 investigation of earthquakes induced by Kilauea volcano on the Big Island of Hawaii READ MORE. The photograph at the left shows Rebecca presnting results of that research at the November 2011 Southern California Council on Undergraduate Research conference. The picture at below right is from a recent SCEC field trip to the southern San Andreas Fault where they stopped to see some mud volcanoes in the Salton Trough.

Rebecca describes her SCEC internship below:

"The Undergraduate Studies in Earthquake Information Technology (USEIT) is a team-based undergraduate research program run by the Southern California Earthquake Center (SCEC) at the University of Southern California (USC). Each summer interns from different disciplines develop technical tools to communicate important concepts about earthquakes in Southern California and other earthquake-prone regions. This summer, I am helping develop GIS capabilities in the visualization display program. The goal of the program this year is to produce 3D visualizations and 4D animations to educate the general public about earthquake rupture forecasts using rupture sequences from earthquake simulators and UCERF3 (Uniform California Earthquake Rupture Forecast, version 3) rupture sets."

Rebecca Rebecca was recently (June 2012) awarded the Margaret Van Buskirk Scholarship to recognize her interests in Earth Science teaching. During her spare time, Rebecca volunteers as a turor, mentor and field trip chaperone for the Earth Science class at Chaffey High School.
