About Us

Connecting knowledge with society to enhance the quality of life and to promote economic growth.

The Office of Research, Innovation and Economic Development (ORIED) oversees many functions, all in support of the Cal Poly Pomona Teacher-Scholar Model. These functions include supporting applications for external contracts and grants (through the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs - ORSP), helping to ensure research compliance (Institutional Review Board - IRB for human and Animal Care and Use Committee - ACUC), support for the Office of Undergraduate Research, and support for the Technology Transfer/Industry Clinic. We also provide oversight of the many University Centers and Institutes and administer various intramural awards to support research, scholarly and creative activity by faculty and students.

The Office also administer intramural awards that include, for example, Research, Scholarship and Creative Activities (RSCA) awards, the Provost Teacher-Scholar Program and Strategic Interdisciplinary Research Grants (SIRG). We also work closely with the Faculty Center for Professional Development and with post-award Grants and Contracts office at the Cal Poly Foundation to better serve faculty, staff, and students from across the university.

The Office of Research, Innovation, and Economic Development Office oversees the direction and guidance of the University’s research mission. It is responsible for policy formation and oversight related to the research processes as well as training in the ethical conduct of research. The office promotes the creation and maintenance of a university environment that maximally encourages and supports research productivity. In addition, the office coordinates patents and technology marketing rising from inventions by university faculty.

As part of the University’s stewardship focus, the above mission is accomplished through efforts that:

  • Enhance the research capacity at Cal Poly Pomona by encouraging interdisciplinary research and scholarly collaborations for student engagement
