CSU PDF Remediation Tool

On April 24, 2024, the Department of Justice (DOJ) published a new rule on digital accessibility under Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). This rule requires the University’s web content, including academic course content, to be accessible and meet the mandated technical standards by April 24, 2026

This service is part of the ATI Remediation Framework. It uses AI to handle a significant amount of PDF accessibility work and can often produce a more usable document, although not fully compliant. Results vary based on the complexity of the file, and some documents will still need targeted adjustments.

Here’s how the automated PDF remediation process works:

  1. Upload a Document: Once you are logged in, simply upload PDF files for remediation.
  2. Remediation: The system utilizes AI to address numerous common accessibility issues, including missing tags, incorrect reading order, Alt Text, table structure, and other frequent barriers. The tool is designed to handle a large portion of the work but will not produce a fully accessible PDF. Many documents may still require refinement depending on layout and complexity.
  3. Download Your Accessible PDF: You will receive your processed PDF along with accessibility reports that outline what was addressed and what may still need review.

*This pdf remediation solution does not fix fillable forms. In addition, you will need to conduct a manual check for color contrast and logical reading order.

For additional guidance or manual remediation, contact us at atiqa@cpp.edu.

ATI conducts regular accessibility checks on campus websites and applications. If you need a full accessibility review of a website or app, you can submit a request through our eHelp ticketing system.

Reviews include both automated and manual testing. A detailed report will be provided with findings and recommended fixes to help developers and content editors address any accessibility issues.

To request a review, submit an Accessibility/ATI Test Request ticket at eHelp (CPP login required)

Contact us at accessibility@cpp.edu for any questions.

All video and audio content at Cal Poly Pomona must be captioned to meet accessibility requirements. MediaVision provides this service at no cost for course-related materials. For non-course content, captioning is free if you provide a transcript; otherwise, transcription is outsourced for a fee. Requests must be submitted at least five business days in advance. Captioning is available for CPP-hosted content, DVDs, Blu-rays, and public YouTube or Vimeo videos.

For additional information, please refer to MediaVision’s Captioning Services page.

Submit video(s) for captioning or audio description through eHelp (CPP login required).
