Companies contract a "White Hat" to stage an offensive against its network using the latest hacking tools and a group of Cal Poly Pomona students proved they were the world's best with a first place finish at the 2023-2024 Collegiate Penetration Testing Competition Global Finals.

This year’s objective was attacking a mock hotel and tourist destination, using computers of all types like public check-in kiosks to infiltrate the network with nefarious intent. Stanford placed second and University of Central Florida placed third out of 15 colleges earning a trip to event host Rochester Institute of Technology through winning regionals.

Team Captain Justin Covairt led Taylor Nguyen, Derrick Tran and Dylan Tran of the Computer Information Systems department and computer science majors Gabriel Fok and Jasmine Weddle during the three-day competition with CIS Professor Dr. Ronald Pike advising.
